Moving forward, all employers wishing to employ migrants on work-specific visas will now to be accredited with Immigration New Zealand to do so.
- Stage 1 - Accreditation - Employers will need to apply for accreditation to employ migrant workers. Once the initial accreditation is granted it is valid for a period of 12 months.
- Stage 2 - Job Check - When an employer has a vacancy they wish to fill, they must first advertise the position in accordance with immigration policy to try and attract NZ residents or citizens for the role. Once the labour market has been tested and if unsuccessful, then the next step is to apply for a job check.
- Stage 3 - AEWV Application - Once granted a job check remains valid for up to 6 months and can be used to support an AEWV. Immigration New Zealand will check the migrant's qualifications and previous work experience to ensure that they are suitably qualified to undertake the role as well as assessing character or health, and if successful will grant an AEWV for up to 3 years.
- Stage 4 - Employers wishing to employ migrants are now obligated to provide settlement services to support the migrant worker transitioning into New Zealand and will need to provide evidence of this for future accreditation applications.
